False Water Quality "Final Notice" Postcards

Water scam Final Notice edited name and address removed

At least one and possibly more residents have been sent a postcard which purports to notify them that their “parcel” is “on hold".

This notice appears to be a sales effort for water filtration systems. A Puyallup resident who called the number was told that her neighborhood was experiencing water-quality problems (not true). The resident was instructed to immediately begin using only bottled water, and that someone would come to her residence for the purpose of testing her water.

This notice is not sent by or on behalf of the City of Puyallup or its water division. If you receive such a notice, we advise that you either ignore or report it, but in no case allow anyone into your home. The private, for-profit company which issues these notices across the country claims it does so as a “public service” and as a way to offer free water testing to homeowners in selected communities. The City of Puyallup has no connection to or affiliation with this company.

Federal rules require that we test our water supply for more than 80 regulated contaminants and more than 50 unregulated chemicals, even if they do not exist in our supply. We test samples of our water weekly to check for bacteria and chlorine residuals. Our water must meet or exceed the highest standard, or we will not send it to you.

For more information about water quality, call us at (253) 841-5524 during regular business hours. If you have a water quality concern after hours or on a weekend, please call (253) 320-4762.

The City posts its annual Water Quality Reports online; you can view the most recent one here
